Es Bol Nou-Cap Jondal loop hike with snorkelling included

We love walking along paths and trails, getting lost in the forest and discovering new landscapes, hidden corners and dizzying cliffs, sculpted by the rain, the wind and the sea.

Today we start the route at the car park of Bol Nou beach along an inland path that leads into a narrow trail, and in just a few minutes we reach the coast, at the southern end of Jondal beach. We begin to climb slowly, stopping every couple of steps to take in the wonderful view that fills our eyes with colour and grandeur.

We have chosen a special route, not very long, but with a slight slope that will take us to the summit of Puig Jondal, from where we can gaze at the immensity of the Mediterranean and, on clear days like today, we can see the silhouette of the Montgó Massif on the Alicante coast.

As we go down we tread carefully, since we pass close to the edge of the cliff formed by clay and rocks. Another stop is a must to admire cap Llentrisca and the islet of es Vedrà peeking out to the west.

We can see a wall built by the first settlers and I wonder: what do we know about the prehistory of the island? We are in an area with traces of ancient civilisations, stones that witnessed the bustle of our ancestors' daily lives.

We continue along a trail lined with pines, junipers and mastic trees. The feast of scenery goes on; before our eyes lie sa Caleta, es Codolar and, on the horizon, las Salinas and cap Falcó. We gaze at the sea, with water so crystal clear that it lets us see the meadow of posidonia rooted in the white sand of the bay.

We go down a steep stairway leading to the boat sheds where some fishermen keep their boats and traditional gear.

After a short walk over the rocks we step onto the sand of the beach. We can't ignore the call of the sea; the time has come for a swim. The water is cool and we are hot, what bliss!
